Danny Sullivan from Search Engine Land went on a search for “bill gates blog” in the world’s most popular search engine (hint, it’s not Bing) and had quite a bit to say about what he found.
Pleasantly enough, “bill gates blog” as a search phrase in Google resulted in the actual Bill Gates blog appearing in the top 10 results, in the fourth spot. Clustered around it are a host of parody blogs for the richest man on Earth – money may count for a lot but it won’t buy you first position on a Google results page.
Sadly, Mr Gates’ blog does not appear on the first page in Bing (by Microsoft – gasp!).

Here are Danny Sullivan’s recommendations to Mr Gates.
- Use the keywords you hope to rank for in your page title (ya think?)
- Use the meta description tag to describe what your site is about to your readers (duh!)
- Every page needs a unique meta title and meta description (more than common sense, really)
- Get important pages to link to your site (e.g. Microsoft.com)
- Get an RSS feed on your site and use autodiscovery to help people subscribe to your feeds
- Use Twitter and tweet about your blog post
- Don’t forget to make your site load even if you don’t add WWW (not doing this is also known as lame-ass syndrome)
Good advice for anyone, even if you’re not the richest man in the world.

Classic post!
Nice to see money can’t buy everthing (bing)
